Part of our Ancient Grains selection of artisan breads, we have a spelt flour artisan loaf. Spelt, or its scientific name Triticum spelta, also known as hulled wheat. It is a species of wheat cultivated since approximately 5000 BCE. Spelt is a good source of dietary fiber, protein (which it contains more of than common wheat), and vitamins and minerals. This grain is also more water-soluble than wheat, which makes it easier for the body to digest. It has a mild, slightly sweet and nutty flavor, similar to that of whole wheat flour but with none of the bitterness.
We use our signature sourdough culture with all our products, enhancing the natural flavours of the spelt flour giving a unique ancient grains loaf.
